Jamie Pelayo’s Malibu

Jamie Pelayo’s Malibu

My name is: Jamie Leilani Pelayo.

I’m known for being: Co-founder, natureofthings elemental wellness, skin and body care.

I live in: Malibu, California.

My newest wellness obsession is: Ricari Studios Signature body/face treatment which includes our Superlative Body Balm.

THE PHYSICAL:

In my city, my favorite place for exercise is:

If I’m not exercising outdoors, hiking in the mountains or in the ocean, I’m at Bulates Pilates Studio.

The best spot for body or facial treatments is:

Cure Spa has a beautiful view of the Santa Monica Bay and offers the most complete array of spa services in town.

My favorite local health food store or delicious nourishing restaurant is: Vitamin Barn is Malibu’s original wellness spot, but SunLife Organics is more trendy and a scene.

At least once a month, I head to the mountains of Malibu for my favorite comfort food at The Old Place  which is nourishing and healthy (depending on your definition of health, but I’m from the Midwest originally, so a hearty meal is a healthy meal when done in moderation).

When I’m there, I always grab:

Malibu Mud Smoothie at Vitamin Barn or Fountain of Youth Smoothie or Brazilian Acai Bowl at SunLife Organics

At The Old Place, I order the oak-grilled sirloin steak and baked potato with salad which I usually eat half of there and save half of for delicious leftovers the day after. While there, I’ll usually visit Cornell Winery  next door to get my dose of resveratrol and antioxidants while discovering the newest and most interesting California wines.

THE EMOTIONAL:

When I want to get quiet, think and/or meditate, I head to: Malibu is perfect for finding quiet solitude for meditation.

Usually, I’ll stay at home in our eucalyptus grove, which is also a certified monarch butterfly sanctuary. Or I take a short walk from there to the beach at Paradise Cove. Sometimes, a drive through the mountains serves this purpose well. But, there’s also a great spot in town called The Mindry  with guided meditations. There are also so many great outdoor ranches that offer meditation, sound baths, yoga and meditation like Salvaje Malibu  or Malibu Sangha.

My favorite is the RE:BIRTH water meditation experience with my friend, Jobi of I AM SEFARI, who is a water healer.

What I do there is: It’s a two-hour guided meditation and paddleboat journey on the Pacific Ocean.

What makes it special and unique is: Meditating in the ocean is a next level experience and Jobi is a phenomenal at facilitating transformational experiences.

THE INTELLECTUAL:

My favorite local bookstore is: Sadly, our only independent bookstore closed down a few years ago, so our only real destination is the Malibu Newsstand, which is the best place to stock up on magazines, but I do love visiting Malibu Shaman with its selection of metaphysical books.

The best thing about it is: The Malibu Shaman has an eclectic mix of books, crystals and intuitive readings under one roof.

THE TRANSFORMATIONAL:

When I need to get away, I take a trip to: Sometimes just a short drive up into the mountains over to Topanga is enough, but, most often, I’ll cruise up the PCH to Ojai.

The reason why I love it is: I love visiting the Ojai Olive Oil Co with their delectable seasonal oils and the best imported balsamic vinegar I’ve ever had. I wish there was a purse-size bottle to carry with me. I also love to visit Friends Packing House for fresh-squeezed OJ and Ojai pixie tangerines. A half day is usually all I need to feel refreshed, but, if I can linger a bit longer  I’ll visit my favorite destination bookstore Bart’s Books.

LIVE THE PROCESS:

The Live The Process piece I’m coveting right now is: The Celeste Cardigan.

I’d wear it to: Everywhere. It’s the perfect transitional piece from morning tea dates or school runs to business zoom meetings and end of the day sunset beach walks on a crisp California night.
