My name is: Eugenia Kim.
I’m known for being: CEO and creative director of my eponymous label, Eugenia Kim.
I'm talking about: My Spring Collection! Its focus is all about taking our first step toward more sustainable practices while honoring the beauty of a place that really inspires me—Colombia.
You can find it at: The collection launched in March and can be found on our website.
What inspired me to launch it was: I’ve always been in awe of Colombia’s incredible architecture and the natural vibrancy of its indigenous flowers. I wanted this collection to emphasize the artisanal craftsmanship and natural materials specific to the region. There’s an earthy quality to this collection, which definitely comes through with our use of floral motifs, hand-woven materials, vivid embroideries and prints.
How it works is: We teamed up with artisans through local programs that supply craftsmen with new jobs, allowing them to continue their skillful techniques and build awareness of this type of artistry. By working with local programs in Bogota, we’ve been able to help women continue using this special weaving technique, while helping to increase community employment.
What makes it special is: Throughout this collection, you’ll see Colombia honored with agate stones, biodegradable 100% Iraca Palm Straw and indigenous Iraca palm flowers. We really want to move toward greater sustainability and social impact moving forward, and this collection is the first step in that direction.
One thing you can’t miss is: We’re really loving the Valentina Hat in Camel—especially the tortoiseshell chain!
My favorite secret detail is: The handmade nature of this collection means each piece is one-of-a-kind and varies slightly from one to the next.
These make the world a sunnier place because: There’s a lot of white space in luxury-yet-conscious millinery, and this is our first step toward filling it!
One thing that makes me personally feel sunny is: Playing tennis. I've been playing since I was little and I get so much joy from it. That’s one reason why I included the Ricky sun visor in this collection: I wear it when I play.
