My name is: Maria Geyman.

I’m known as: The founder of Masha Tea and a naturopathic doctor.

My expertise is in: Beauty, teas and holistic medicine.

I stay physically healthy with: Most importantly, I stay healthy with fresh fruits, vegetables and lots of water. Lately, I've been doing Pilates with Fluid Form Pilates! As a naturopathic doctor, I know how important it is to get professional grade supplements. I am currently taking Nordic Naturals fish oil and vitamin D, and Klaire Labs probiotic and magnesium citrate. For skin health, I use Lesse products for my face and Lauren's All Purpose Salve for body. 

I keep my emotions balanced with: I’ve been taking epsom salt baths with a new blend that I created for Masha Tea. Though I'm based in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, I'm spending this winter in Wyoming where I have access to a natural hot spring five minutes away. I'm soaking in those mineral baths as frequently as possible. For those of us who live in colder climates, baths, saunas and hot springs can be incredibly healing. For my birthday this year, my sister gifted me a hot water bottle (which you could get at most pharmacies) and a cute sweater for it. This does not leave my side on winter nights. 

I’m intellectually stimulated by: Right now I'm reading Selected Poems of  Frank O'hara and Listening to Stone, Isamu Noguchi's biography. My favorite independent bookstore, Head Hi, could get any of these books for you or could give recommendations! Also, besides watching the entire Fast and the Furious series with my boyfriend over the past week, I've been enjoying the extensive collection of Agnes Varda and Jim Jarmusch films on the Criterion Channel. Finally, the Jewish Food Society has been archiving one my family's recipes, and diving into my family's history has been pretty amazing for me.

I was recently transformed by: The natural beauty of Wyoming. The juniper trees on these mountains can live for hundreds of years; I read that the oldest juniper is 1600 years old. Trees, rocks and plants are so inspiring to me. These juniper trees feel as strong to me as the dandelions and mugwort growing through the cracks of my Brooklyn neighborhood in the springtime. Sometimes, I just like to be near plants and imagine what they could say to me if they were speaking. There’s an element of grandeur felt around enormous rock structures and trees that are clearly significantly older that I am or will ever be. 

In the last six months, the ritual that has become so important for me is: My bath ritual has been crucial for me. Even in the summer, I would take tepid day baths to stay grounded. I make and bring a cup of tea in with me, bring candles and incense and often do a face mask in the bath.

It helps me live my process because: My new year's resolution this year was to take excellent care of myself. The bath time ritual brings all of my small and simple luxuries into one place—reading, music, body care. I've come up with some of my best ideas for writing and creative projects during these bath times.
