My name is: Dr. Barbara Sturm.

I’m known as: The founder and creator of Dr. Barbara Sturm Molecular Cosmetics. 

My expertise is in: Uncomplicated yet highly effective skincare that delivers anti-inflammatory effects, intense hydration and improved barrier function to the skin using potent, natural extracts and ingredient science.

I stay physically healthy with: I like to exercise in the morning; I am definitely a morning person! I prefer cardio, so I normally bike and then use the elliptical. I also like to do mat exercises such as yoga or Pilates. At the moment, I have so much work that I don’t have much time, but I am planning on going to VIVAMAYR for a retreat soon. I love yoga, as it’s a great and relaxing way to keep fit and flexible. I also try to always get enough sleep.

I keep my emotions balanced with: When I am stressed, I like to play with my 5-year-old daughter. It takes my mind off things and keeps me calm. 

I’m intellectually stimulated by: I’m currently obsessed with Krishnamurti’s Freedom From The Known.

In the last six months, the ritual that has become so important for me is: I have a purslane smoothie almost every day. Purslane is effective not only topically, but also systemically; for example, clinical studies have shown that consuming purslane dramatically reduces the chronic inflammatory skin disease oral lichens planus—a condition that affects the mucous membranes in your mouth. It’s why I also deploy purslane in my oral supplements. It’s an amazing superfood.

Here’s how you can do it too: You can blend fresh purslane with apple, orange and crushed ice for a delicious smoothie.

It helps me live my process because: It’s tremendously nutritious and anti-inflammatory. It’s full of antioxidants, minerals and omega-3 fatty acids and provides me with all of the nutrients my skin needs.
