My name is: Anna Karlin.
I’m known as: A designer.
My expertise is in: Objects.
Being a maker has helped me in this challenging time because: I can still feel connected to some of the things I care about most.
I stay physically healthy with: Walks, Pilates, HIT, Body by Simone, a good stretch. As long as I get moving, I’m happy. I try and do a little something most days, even if it’s just a morning walk.
I keep my emotions balanced with: Movement, real design time, bath and bedtime stories with my baby, catching up properly with friends. I often catch up with all my friends and family in London on my early morning walks with Whatsapp calls. If I feel truly engaged in all those, my life feels in balance.
I’m intellectually stimulated by: The Guardian. I’m always on the app.
I was recently transformed by: It was a few years ago now, but I did an Artists Residency at Villa Lena. For the first time in years, it gave me a long stretch of creative development time very shut off from the usual day-to-day running of the studio; it really helped me progress my design process.
In the last six months, the ritual that has become so important for me is: Getting the coffee pot on the hob before my son gets up and needs my attention.
Here’s how you can do it too: I’m not sure this quite needs an explanation!
It helps me live my process because: I’m awake.
