My name is: Alexis Smart.
I’m known as: A maker of flower remedies and a classical homeopath.
My expertise is in: Creating deeply transformative, universal flower remedies that bring the custom-made flower remedy experience to everyone.
My most recent launch is: Páthos, a flower remedy formula for empaths.
I was inspired to create it when: I was on a Greek island one summer, where I do my postgraduate studies in homeopathy with George Vithoulkas. One year, I was lucky enough to be his patient. I had become exhausted to the point that I lost my voice and my hearing was going. He gave me a homeopathic remedy that fixed me and changed my life in such a positive way.
While discussing my case with the class, he explained that all of my ailments were from my empathetic nature, that I was absorbing other people's pain (during my daily work with clients and being a caregiver for my mother). He discussed at length the type of patients who have “ailments from sympathy.” I realized that so many of my clients fit this same description and that I really needed to make a universal formula to support empaths. I’ve been fine-tuning it for years. Now seemed the perfect time for Páthos to be born.
In my everyday life, I stay physically healthy with: Food is the best medicine—I love cooking. My weekly trip to the Joshua Tree Farmers Market inspires me to make new dishes. Beans, greens and fruit are the theme this summer. I’m getting into the cookbook “Canelle et Vanille."
Swimming in my friend’s saltwater pool. The more I can get in water, the better.
I do the infrared sauna three times a week. It’s really helping me as I am clearing mold out of my system. Also, it’s amazing If I feel I’m coming down with something. I researched pretty thoroughly and got myself a Sunlighten. (You can use this affiliate link for a discount and mention Alexis Smart for an additional discount).
More than anything else, my homeopathic constitutional remedy keeps me physically balanced and it always works quickly. (If you are interested in homeopathy, make sure to find someone who practices “classical” homeopathy).
I keep my emotions balanced with:
Flower remedies are my therapist, my meditation class and my teacher all in one. I am not just saying this because of my work; they have saved me and continue to help me grow and expand my consciousness. They bypass the conscious intellectual mind as they bring you into a state of peace, teaching you lessons along the way. The philosophy behind flower remedies is that happiness is our birthright and our natural state. When we are unhappy, it is from a conflict between the soul (the inner life and purpose) and the personality (how we are living outwardly). The flowers help you to connect to the all-knowing guidance of the soul and to do it with grace and joy.
I’m intellectually stimulated by:
Reading the book The Impossible Cure by Amy Lansky. It’s a mother’s account of how her autistic child was cured with homeopathy. She is a computer science researcher at NASA, so she presents the story in a very unbiased, objective way.
Erin Lovelander’s book about herbs, Plants for the People. It’s so practical, simple and inspiring, with lots of kitchen recipes.
A documentary called That Summer. It's about the making of Grey Gardens, the 1970s documentary about the eccentric cousins of Jackie Kennedy. But it was Peter Beard, the photographer/narrator, who inspired me most. To their wealthy Hamptons neighbours, these two women were outcasts living in squalor, a blight on their community. But the way Peter Beard spoke about them with utter reverence and delight was so moving to me. He was genuinely inspired by them and appreciative of all of their oddities. It’s evident in his photography that he lived his whole life this way, seeing the beauty in all things. He was never bored, never judging. I aspire to be this way.
I was recently transformed by:
Leaving Los Angeles and moving to the desert near Joshua Tree. I had lived in L.A. almost my whole life. So many great things have happened there, but a lot of intense things. Places hold memories and energy. I couldn’t see L.A. with fresh eyes. I was feeling stuck, stagnant and was worried that I was becoming a misanthrope. My health started to decline and, after a few years of headaches, I found out I had been living in a toxic house with mold.
I went to stay with my dad in the desert while I tried to figure out what to do. I felt so good here, I didn’t want to leave. So, I made a sudden move, thinking it was temporary, but I have been here for a year now.
I grew up reading Paul Bowles’ stories of North Africa and always had a romantic notion of the desert. Since moving here, I think of him a lot, how he understood the way the desert reveals you to yourself because of the lack of outside stimulation. In the silence here, you can connect to a vast inner landscape.
I feel I am in the middle of the transformation right now. I am shedding the need to know the future. I am becoming nomadic in a greater sense of the word, not being attached to a place or an idea of what my life needs to be. I’m traveling light, emotionally and physically. My spirit of adventure is returning, as I am recovering my health. It’s quite exciting.
In the last six months, the ritual that has become so important for me is:
Taking four drops of Páthos four times a day. It has changed so much internally in me, but, since I have been taking this formula, I didn’t even realize that I had started a new ritual in the way I start my day: I take an hour for myself in the morning without looking at emails or social media. I’ve noticed this flower remedy gives me amazing dreams, so I have been writing them down when I wake up. I believe dreams are very important to listen to. When you bounce out of bed, you lose that connection to the subconscious and can’t get it back in the day.
Previously, I would have felt guilty not jumping into action. Now, I see that this time is a necessity, not a luxury.
Here’s how you can do it too :
Unplug all the internet cables before you go to bed. You will be amazed by how much deeper you sleep when you get a break from EMF pollution. When you wake, take four drops of flower remedy under the tongue. Stay quiet in bed and let your dreams play back. Staying still allows you remember dreams more easily.
Write down whatever you can remember about your dreams. At first, it may be just images and fragments. But if you do it every day, your access to your memory will strengthen.
It helps me live my process because: Exactly that! It’s helped me to live "my” process rather than someone else's! Now, I feel a sense of self-determination and sovereignty over my own life. I haven’t lost my empath nature. If anything, I am feeling more giving, but it’s now from a place of abundance.
