My name is: Amanda Carney.
My stomping ground is: Miami.
I’m known for being: Director of Health Coaching at The Well.
I’m talking about:
How The Well can help you improve the quality of your sleep through our services, products and our newly launching Better Sleep program (in June), in partnership with Auberge Resorts Collection.
You can find it at:
Our outposts in partnership with Auberge Resorts Collection at The Well at Mayflower Inn in Washington, Connecticut and The Well at Hacienda AltaGracia in Costa Rica, as well as six additional properties by Auberge Resorts Collection.
Before I started this work, I was:
Before joining The Well team, I worked with Dr. Frank Lipman at his private practice in NYC.
My interest was sparked when:
I learned that healing our bodies and truly feeling well involves many areas of our lives, including nutrition, movement, sleep, sense of community, mindset and much more!
The idea behind it is:
At The Well, we offer integrative care, which means we consider how all aspects of one’s life are impacting overall health and well-being. When someone comes to us with sleep issues (an extremely common complaint), we work together to introduce simple, sustainable and personalized practices that produce big results, getting people to sleep more soundly—and feeling more energized—in just a few weeks!
We designed Better Sleep in partnership with Auberge Resorts Collection to share our most impactful recommendations, in hopes of helping more people sleep better (especially when they are on the road and traveling).
What makes it different is:
To quote our chief medical officer, Dr. Frank Lipman, “It is how we spend our day that determines how we sleep at night.” I believe most people aren’t aware of this concept and aren’t considering how things they are experiencing during the day (such as stress, travel, stimulating foods and overconsumption of information) are impacting their ability to fall asleep and stay asleep.
When it comes to sleep quality, we are considering all 24 hours in your day. Better Sleep gives travelers simple tips and tools that they can incorporate into their day-to-day life while they are on the road or at home.
Our secret ingredient is:
We provide an integrated experience, pulling from different modalities and methods that address the mind, body and spirit in a myriad of ways. For example, our Better Sleep offerings include a mini bottle of our Relax Everything Mist to activate the senses and calm the nervous system, encouraging more sound sleep.
My favorite lesser-known detail is:
We understand that every person is unique, so rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach, we encourage our community to customize wellness in a way that works and feels best for them. This is why we provide a variety of rituals and practices in our Better Sleep guide, so a person can choose which to start with.
Rest is so important because:
This quote from Mathew Walker sums it up for me: “From an evolutionary perspective, sleep initially seems like a terrible idea since we don’t do anything useful and are vulnerable. But the fact that every species sleeps shows that there must be tremendous benefits far outweighing the downsides.”
My bedtime ritual is:
I’m keeping things super simple these days. After I put my daughter to bed (which includes a spritz of our Relax Everything Mist on her pillow), I wash my face and brush my teeth with intention, trying to stay present and enjoy this moment of caring for myself. From there, I head into bed and quickly jot down five things I am grateful for that day, never repeating things I have already recorded (at least the ones I can remember). I oil my hands and feet with our Relax Body Oil, read for a bit (not on a screen!) and drift off to sleep.
