Read All About It: ‘How We Heal’

My name is:

Alex Elle.

My stomping ground is:

Maryland.

I’m known for:

Writing, meditation and teaching.

I’m talking about: My upcoming new book, How We Heal, out on November 8, 2022 (tour dates here!).

Before I started this work, I was:

I’ve been self-employed and writing books for ten years. Before this career, I worked in admin jobs at in the non-profit sector.

My interest was sparked when:

Writing to heal shaped me and my life. I’ve always been a writer, but it wasn’t until I started to use writing as a restorative tool that things really shifted. I talk about this in depth in my books After The Rain and How We Heal.

The book is about: This collection is an invitation to heal yourself and reclaim your peace. In these pages, readers will discover essential techniques for self-healing, including journaling rituals to cultivate innate strength, accessible tools for processing difficult emotions and restorative meditations to ease the mind.

What makes it different is:

I am a big believer in self-care as community care. We all need each other in this life. When we heal ourselves, we heal each other. When we heal each other, we start the task of healing the world. My work is centered on community, and I think that is what makes me and my messaging different.

I hope that readers walk away feeling: Seen, safe and supported.

Writing is key to processing because:

It invites us to see ourselves in a new, vulnerable and brave way.

One moment when writing helped me was:

When I feel stuck in identifying my wants/needs, I head to the page to sort it out and unpack my truth—even if just in that moment.

The words I live by are: “Nothing will work unless you do.” — Maya Angelou

One truth that is so important, but people don’t always realize is:

Validation must come from the self, first and foremost.
